Although local anesthetic will still be used, nitrous oxide also has the ability to reduce the sensation of pain in the patient. Will I need a ride if I decide to use nitrous oxide with my dental appointment?

Nitrous oxide is not metabolized by the body. Once it is inhaled and has a sedative effect, it is exhaled through the lungs unchanged. Therefore, once the nitrous oxide is stoped, and placed on 100% oxygen (10 minutes), the patient returns to his or her normal state of consciousness and can resume normal daily activities.
