Nitrous Oxide:

Nitrous oxide sedation, also known as laughing gas, can be very beneficial to the anxious patient. Nitrous oxide has anti-anxiety properties that help patients feel more comfortable in the dental office. Although local anesthetic will still be used, nitrous oxide also has the ability to reduce the sensation of pain in the patient. With nitrous oxide and our caring staff, we have made many patients more comforatble in our dental office.

Will I need a ride if I decide to use nitrous oxide with my dental appointment?

Nitrous oxide is not metabolized by the body. Once it is inhaled and has a sedative effect, it is exhaled through the lungs unchanged. Therefore, once the nitrous oxide is stoped, and placed on 100% oxygen (10 minutes), the patient returns to his or her normal state of consciousness and can resume normal daily activities.
